Haven's Story
Haven means "place of safety" and that is certainly what this sweet girl deserves. Haven is a beautiful, 8 year old shepherd cross who has been in ARTS foster care for way too long.
When her foster mama first brought her home, Haven was very nervous and immediately sought out a corner of the kitchen which continued to be her little safe place for the first week. With routine and encouragement, Haven started to venture out to the rest of the home and found more favourite spots to relax in. Now she has really come into her own and has developed an amazing personality. While new things and new people are still scary, she warms up quickly and then becomes very fast friends.
Haven does well on and off leash. She is treat motivated and will come when called. She loves to meet people and other dogs. If another dog gives her a bit too much energy, she will give a loud bark to tell them. She has been fostered with other large dogs before and done well as long as they respect her space when she asks.
As far as cats and kids, Haven can still be fearful and she finds little kids and cats too unpredictable and fast moving for her. She will literally cower when a cat enters the room with her.
When Haven arrived at ARTS she was suffering a severe ear infection. These occasionally returned until her diet was figured out, now we know she needs to eat a Salmon diet. She is otherwise healthy and active. She loves walks, stuffies and collagen chews but she especially loves the park.
Haven does well being home all day while her foster mama is at work. She has had zero accidents in the house.
